#254: She was working 4 hours to make $6.50/hour (and didn’t even know it)

It’s 92 degrees. You’re sunburned, sweaty, on your 7th iced coffee, and saying YES to every. single. sale. Because that’s what good farmers do, right?

Except… somehow, you’re making less money. And feeling more burned out. And wondering, “Wait… how is this the dream again?” 😅

I just had a coaching call with a flower farmer that cracked this wide open—and I have a feeling it might change the way you run your business.

She and her husband run a gorgeous flower farm. Weekly bouquet subscriptions? Check. Event florals (which she loves)? Yep. Plus a sprinkle of one-off $65 bouquet orders because she didn’t want to say no to anyone. She wanted to be convenient. Helpful. Available.

You know, likable. 👀

On the outside, it looked like a thriving, diversified farm biz.

But behind the scenes?

Every time someone ordered a single custom bouquet, she’d drop everything… Spend 4 hours picking, designing, texting, delivering, or waiting around for pickup.

We ran the numbers together, and after taxes + costs, she was making… $6.50/hour.

Six. Dollars. And. Fifty. Cents.

That’s “summer job in 1994” money. Not “running a farm business in 2025” money.

But here’s the real kicker: She was so tied up in those one-off orders, she hadn’t had time to market her events—aka her actual moneymaker.

So I asked:

What if, instead of four hours per bouquet, she wrote one email per week promoting her event services?

You could hear the silence. Then the realization. Then the, “oh my goodness, I’ve been stepping over $100 bills to pick up pennies moment.”

Because that same four hours could’ve made her $500. Or $1000+. (That’s a 10x–30x hourly ROI. You know… just a small difference.)

🎧 Listen to the episode now to hear the full breakdown.

Inside, I walk you through:

  • The “Busy Trap” formula – aka why you feel like you’re working all the time but your bank account disagrees
  • How to find your $100 bills – and stop picking up the darn pennies
  • The art of the NO – the mindset shift from “I should say yes to everything” to “I only say yes to what grows my business”

Because here’s the thing:

The most successful farmers I coach? Aren’t the ones who hustle harder or say yes to every opportunity. They’re the ones who ruthlessly protect their time + focus on what actually moves the needle.

✨ This one might save you YEARS of wasted time ✨

And if you want help figuring out where your farm might be bleeding time + money, we walk through this with at least one farmer each week inside Farm Marketing Mastery.

You can’t always see the leaks when you’re the one swimming in them. Coaching makes you aware of how you’re losing money and how to fix it.

Rooting for you (and your $100 bills),

— Charlotte

P.S. That flower farmer? She left the call ready to ditch the low-profit bouquets immediately and spend those hours on the work she loves and that actually pays. Her words, not mine: “I feel like I just got my life back.”

You could, too.
